1. About AllerAlerts

AllerAlerts is a food allergen screening reference application ("the App") developed for personal informational use. The App uses a combination of a curated dish database, keyword rule matching, and AI-assisted analysis to estimate the likelihood that a given dish or menu item may contain allergens you have indicated you track.

2. Not a Medical Device — Critical Disclaimer

AllerAlerts is not a medical device. It is not approved or cleared by the FDA, Health Canada, the EMA, or any other regulatory authority.

The App does not:

  • Physically test food, beverages, surfaces, or any substance for allergens.
  • Guarantee that any dish or ingredient is allergen-free or safe to consume.
  • Replace professional medical advice, diagnosis, or treatment.
  • Replace consultation with a physician, allergist, or registered dietitian.
  • Substitute for direct communication with restaurant staff about ingredients and preparation.

"Low risk" results must never be treated as confirmation a dish is safe to eat. Cross-contamination, undisclosed ingredients, recipe changes, and regional variations are not fully captured by any database or AI system.

Always carry your prescribed emergency medication (e.g. epinephrine auto-injector) at all times, regardless of what the App indicates.

3. AI and Database Limitations

The App uses AI models (including Anthropic Claude) and a crowd-sourced dish database to provide risk estimates. By using the App you acknowledge:

  • AI outputs are probabilistic and can be incorrect, incomplete, or outdated.
  • The dish database is community-sourced and may contain errors.
  • Regional recipe variations, restaurant-specific preparation, and undeclared additives are not reliably captured.
  • The App may return "low risk" or "no allergen detected" for a dish that does, in fact, contain your allergen.
  • Results vary based on the dish name entered, language, spelling, and phrasing.

4. User Responsibility

By using the App you agree that:

  • You are solely responsible for all decisions about food consumption.
  • You will always verify allergen information directly with the restaurant, food manufacturer, or food preparer before consuming any food.
  • You understand the App is a supplementary reference tool only.
  • You will maintain your own medically-supervised emergency action plan and will not rely on the App's emergency features as a substitute for that plan.
  • You are responsible for keeping your emergency contacts and personal health information accurate and up to date.

5. Emergency Features

The App includes features to store emergency contacts and personal notes written by your healthcare provider. These features are provided for convenience only.

  • The App does not initiate emergency services on your behalf.
  • Emergency numbers displayed are generic defaults and may not reflect your local emergency number.
  • In a medical emergency, call your local emergency services immediately. Do not wait to consult the App.

6. Community Reports

By submitting a community report you agree it is accurate to the best of your knowledge, you grant AllerAlerts a licence to display it to other users, and you will not submit false or misleading reports. Community reports are user-generated and have not been independently verified. Other users rely on them at their own risk.

7. Accounts and Data

Account data: When you create an account, your email, display name, allergen profile, emergency plan, test history, and community reports are stored on AllerAlerts servers.

Anonymous use: Data is stored locally only. Loss of your device means permanent loss of that data.

Third-party services used:

  • Anthropic Claude API — AI dish analysis. Dish names may be sent to Anthropic servers.
  • OpenStreetMap Nominatim — Reverse geocoding. GPS coordinates may be sent to Nominatim servers.
  • Device GPS — Only with your explicit permission.

Data deletion: You may request account and data deletion by contacting us. Community reports may be retained in anonymised form.

8. Strip Tests

Strip test features are a guided timer and logging tool only. The App does not manufacture or quality-assure test strips. Strip results depend entirely on the physical strip used and the strip manufacturer's accuracy limitations.

9. Limitation of Liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, AllerAlerts and its developers shall not be liable for any loss, injury, illness, death, or damage arising from use of or reliance on the App's risk assessments, AI outputs, community reports, or emergency features.

You use this App entirely at your own risk.

10. No Warranty

The App is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranty of any kind, including warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy, or non-infringement.

11. Age Requirement

You must be at least 13 years of age to create an account. If you are under 18, a parent or legal guardian must review and agree to these Terms on your behalf.

12. Changes to These Terms

AllerAlerts may update these Terms from time to time. Continued use of the App after any change constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.

AllerAlerts is an independent application. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or approved by any food manufacturer, restaurant chain, medical association, or regulatory body.
